Go Do Be Ô

Short distances away are many restaurants in Pahoa from the best Mexican on the island to Thai cuisine. Pahoa has a Natural Food store for your natural food shopping along with a small market for other foods. There are many sites to see from Volcano's National Park where the volcano lava flows, to the Hawaiian Painted Church of Kalapana. Ideally located 1 ½ mile from the famous hot springs ocean-cove that is heated to 101 everyday to soak your cares away! Take a drive down (Red Road) the coast and see whales breaching along with spinner dolphins bounding out of the ocean with joy! The Red Road has been called the last true drive through a jungle paradise like Hawaii was 40 years ago!  Minutes To Black Sand Beaches Clothing Optional Nude Beaches.

Kapoho is truly is a swimmer’s paradise. The volcano-heated ponds are a very warm temperature. There is teaming underwater Life just beneath the surface for your snorkeling delight. Discover the majesty of our earth’s seas. Wonderful free swimming and snorkeling in these places:

Kapoho Vacationland Tide Pools
Kapoho Vacationland is one of the Big Island's best spots for swimming and snorkeling…. a wonderful adventure of reef protected tide pools and volcanically heated waters. Ask host for directions.

Champagne Pond
This warm pond is another of Kapoho's amazing places. An inlet from the ocean allows sea turtles to come and go as they please along with colorful small tropical fishes. This is a short healthy hike from the guesthouse. Ask your host for directions.

Kehena Black Sand Beach
If small secluded black sand beaches are on your itinerary, take the scenic oceanside drive down Red Road to Kehena. You may recognize it - it's often used as a location for TV commercials and films such as Planet of the Apes because of its beauty. Body boarding and body surfing are possible during calmer tides. Kehena is also great for getting tans without lines - it's secluded and rather inconspicuous location has made it a favorite swimming and picnicking area among the Island's 'clothing optional' inhabitants.

This spectacular beach will certainly take your breath away, this secluded beach is at the bottom of a steep cliff and you must climb down a fairly narrow path down to the beach. There aren't any lifeguards, and the currents there can be extremely strong and there is an undertow, so don't swim out too far. Please use caution by swimming reasonably close to shore and have a great adventure swimming and riding the waves!

Isaac Hale Beach County Park
This is a skilled required surfing and body boarding place among the local kids, and there is also a boat ramp that is used by local fisherman. Great place to watch hot surfers (picture gallery)!  Drive up from the boat ramp through Mango forest (see picture gallery) up to Pahoa for lunch to feel the old Hawaii marina.

McKenzie State Recreation Area
This Park is dramatic cliffs with pine forests and is a great place for picnicking.

Lava Tree Park
As you come and go to Pahoa (the nearest town 6 miles) you will drive through what residents call the Magic Forest (see picture gallery)

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
To see the earth’s creation, it is well worth this half day trip! Visit the world's most active volcano and watch molten lava flow into the sea. Explore landscapes unlike any others on Earth with steam vents and stop by Volcano House Restaurant for a view of the moonscape Kiluea crater.

Akaka Falls State Park
This Falls is well worth the drive North of Hilo on the Hamakua Coast. Majestic canopied self-guided walk through lush tropical vegetation and to scenic vista points overlooking the cascading Kahuna Falls and the free-falling Akaka Falls which plunges 442 feet into a stream-eroded gorge. The 0.4-mile loop footpath requires some light physical exertion.

Ask your host about Westside island sites…like Costco!
